NURSERY/PRESCHOOL-For 3-5 year olds. Morning, full, or extended day options. Open registration begins Feb. 1 for Sept. 2017. NAEYC accredited.
The Sterling House Preschool supports and nurtures the growth of each individual child in all areas of development: social, emotional, physical, cognitive, language and creativity. These areas are crucial to the development of the whole child. Furthermore, we want each child’s experience to be a positive one, filled with activities that are both challenging and rewarding. We will provide and maintain a classroom setting that is emotionally secure, supportive and planned for independence.
The Preschool classroom is a place where children will feel safe, wanted, encouraged, appreciated and part of a community. Our classroom is set up for learning. There are 9 interest areas within the classroom: blocks, dramatic play, toys and games, art, discovery, music and movement, literature, computers, and sand and water. Children are given opportunities to make choices, discover ideas, experiment, and take responsibility for their work. Children will be encouraged to observe, explore, take things apart, build, create, and draw.
The goal of the Preschool program is to have all children become self-confident in school with people and materials, to become aware and curious of their environment and to develop a love of learning that will sustain them throughout their educational experiences.
Daily activities include free play, clean-up, bathroom, snack, music and story time, as well as recreational periods to foster large muscle coordination. Children will play on our brand-new, state-of-the-art playground daily, weather permitting.
Activities will also focus on good health habits; discussions and presentations about brushing teeth, washing hands, etc. A nutritional snack is provided daily.
