Specific Duties:

  • Maintains constant surveillance of campers and staffing and about the pool; acts immediately to secure safety of campers and staff in the event of an emergency

  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services

  • Enforces all policies applicable to the swimming area and ensures that CT standards are met

  • Be enthusiastic and willing to be fully involved in the camp experience

  • Create a positive, safe and supportive environment for all campers and staff

  • Organizes and cares for the swimming area and all aquatic equipment stored there

  • Operates the swimming area during scheduled times and assists in supervising and running any swim instruction

  • Swims with the children, supervises games to play as directed by the Aquatics Director

  • Assists the Counselors, JC’s and CIT’s in the pool area with enforcing the Pool Rules with the children

  • Supports activities needed to run a water Olympics whole camp activity at least twice over the summer


Qualifications:

  • Over 20 years of age

  • Current certification of American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid

  • Current certification of American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer

  • Skilled in the use of Lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions

  • Previous experience in a leadership role at Sterling House Park or an equivalent camp

  • Proven leadership ability with organizational skills and a talent for developing and leading a staff team

  • Red Cross or YMCA Swim Instruction helpful

  • Leadership ability and teamwork oriented and have the ability to collaborate in a professional manner with colleagues from diverse backgrounds in a way that prioritizes the needs of the campers

  • Have the ability to positively motivate the campers and other staff members

  • Possess a variety of skills and camping experience

  • A commitment to working with a diverse staff and camper population for the fulfillment of Sterling Park’s goals


Additional Duties:

  • Performs various maintenance duties to Maintain the cleanliness and safety of the pool and pool area

  • Reports maintenance needs to the Aquatics Director

  • Models, teaches, and upholds the Sterling House Park Code of Conduct through your actions, language, work habits and general conduct, and protects the well-being of all campers

  • Maintains positive relationships with campers, parents, and other staff

  • Encourages physical, emotional and social growth and positive character development in all campers

  • Works to increase his/her own cultural competence and helps to create an environment that values diversity

  • Prepared to do anything else deemed necessary by the Camp Director
