Thanks to the generosity of more than 50 online donors, Sterling House Community Center raised $3,411 during Fairfield County’s Giving Day held on February 28.

The one-day, 24-hour-long online fundraising event was sponsored by Fairfield County’s Community Foundation (FCCF) based in Norwalk. FCCF is a major grantor to local non-profits including Sterling House. FCCF’s mission is “to promote philanthropy as a means to create lasting change in Fairfield County.”

In all, FCCF noted that Giving Day was supported by 11,752 individual donors who gave a total of $1.719 million to 415 organizations including Sterling House, which was supported by a total of 56 donors.

All proceeds of Giving Day benefiting Sterling House are being used to support the Weekend Backpack Food Program. The program provides Stratford children in need with backpacks filled with snacks and meals for an entire weekend.

“Nutrition is a critical part of the development of our kids and their ability to be engaged learners in school. The children in this program depend on school meals to feed them through the week and we proudly partner with Sodexo to help get them through the weekend.”

She added that due to the fact that the agency was supported by more than 50 Giving Day donors, “we were able to participate in a special bonus prize distribution that added an extra $227.27 to our total raised. The community came through up until midnight that evening!”
